Last week West Marsh Community Centre celebrated the grand unveiling of their new community gym. The gym is open to people of all ages and is holding special sessions every Thursday from 5 pm -7 pm specifically for young people. Read on for full details.
VANEL’s Volunteer Managers Network celebrated this year’s National Volunteers Week (1st -7th June) by holding a Volunteer Recruitment Fair in Peoples Park on Friday 2nd June. The event was attended by VANEL Member organisations such as Dementia Awareness, YMCA Humber, and Counting Hope and also served as the launch of VANEL’s latest funding success, ‘The Blue Lights Brigade’.
VANEL are hiring four students who will be in the third year of their degree this September to work as Youth Leadership Mentors on the IGNITE programme, starting this September. This is a paid position requiring 15 hours a week, flexible to fit around your studies. If you are interested in working with young people and would like to earn some extra money, submit an application form by no later than 30th June 2017.
VANEL would like to congratulate former employee Jasmin Flint who left the team at the end of March following the expiry of her secondment to NELC’s Springboard programme. VANEL were instrumental in helping Jasmin secured a new role through Member organisation Capacity Building’s Ltd, as the Youth Development worker for Big Local. We would like to wish her the best of luck for the future.

After months of preparation IGNITE’s Battle of the Bands event took place last Friday at Moon on the Water in Cleethorpes. The event was a huge success raising £781 to be divided between Women’s Aid and Youth Music as part of ‘Give a Gig’ week. Read on for full details.

Next month VANEL are hosting a funding surgery with Ros Aitchison from Big Lottery. The funding surgery will take place on Thursday 30th March 2017. Community groups wishing to apply to Big Lottery’s Reaching Communities fund are encouraged to book an appointment with Ros at the funding surgery. Places are going fast and booking is essential. The Local Youth Social Action Programme is offering grants of up to £5,000 to groups working with young people between the ages of 10 and 20 years old (or 25 for young people with learning disabilities) living in Greater Lincolnshire. Read on for full details.
