VANEL continues to provide a comprehensive training and development short course programme throughout the year. Training we provide fills gaps where suitable support is perhaps not provided locally or cost effectively to voluntary and community groups within the borough.

What training do we provide?

We run safeguarding Children Level 1 workshops on demand and we are exploring the possibility of providing further levels of Safeguarding training in the future. Groups often have need of other fundamental skills training, such as health & safety or first aid, and we will help organise these courses as necessary or signpost to other training organisations, so if you have the need for this, contact VANEL and we will help you identify appropriate courses.

The Third Sector Hub runs an ongoing training programme of courses designed to help local voluntary and community organisations gain skills which will help them develop towards sustainability. There are normally several courses each month, ranging from short briefings, to half-day or full-day workshops and training courses. Many are delivered by experienced VANEL staff or are facilitated by VANEL using external trainers or experts.

Over the past year, subjects tackled included; communication and media training, a variety of IT courses from beginner to specialist level, public law briefings and training and finance and fundraising related training. In addition to courses the Hub also coordinates a number of regular networks which include within their meetings or workshops aspects of very focussed training. Currently we run three networks – for trusteeship development, for leadership development and to support IT workers within voluntary and community groups.

In addition, each year VANEL delivers a range of projects and initiatives, each of which often contain specific training and development provision. In 2010 we are delivering a Community Learning Champions project helping to promote training out in our communities and our Volunteer Centre is beginning delivery of training related to supporting Volunteer Managers across the borough.
