Last week VANEL celebrated the hard work and dedication of VANEL staff and volunteers at our Executive Meeting. The meetings are lead by VANEL’s board of trustees and are an opportunity for the trustees to scrutinise and discuss the day to day running of the organisation. Last week’s meeting took place at West Marsh Community Centre and presented the IGNITE team with an opportunity to present the work they have been doing with young people over the last 12 months.
VANEL are continuing there efforts to support NELC’s Safer and Stronger Communities team with their Bygone Beachcomber’s project. If you used Cleethorpes Beach Chalet’s on Marine Embankment or attended Cliff Richard’s concert in Cleethorpes in 1962 and have a story that you would like to share, please contact Helen@vanel.org.uk.
VANEL is working in partnership with North East Lincolnshire Council’s Safer and Stronger Communities team on their Bygone Beachcombers project. We are appealing for people who used the beach huts when they were in their prime to come forward and share their stories. The stories will be shared on the Bygone Beachcombers website. North East Lincolnshire Council’s Safer and Stronger Communities team are creating a place where people can learn about the history of Cleethorpes over the last three centuries both online and in person through their Heritage Lottery funded Bygone Beachcomber Project. The team are working to create a display within the beach hut where visitors can view photographs, posters, souvenirs and memorabilia relating to Cleethorpes which they otherwise might not have had the opportunity to see. The deadline for applications for the four Youth Leadership Mentor positions starting this September with VANEL’s IGNITE team is Friday 30th June. Applicants must be going into the third year of the degree course this September. This is a paid position requiring 15 hours per week and is flexible to fit around your studies. VANEL’s Volunteer Managers Network celebrated this year’s National Volunteers Week (1st -7th June) by holding a Volunteer Recruitment Fair in Peoples Park on Friday 2nd June. The event was attended by VANEL Member organisations such as Dementia Awareness, YMCA Humber, and Counting Hope and also served as the launch of VANEL’s latest funding success, ‘The Blue Lights Brigade’.
