Former VANEL Employee Finds Success With New Role
VANEL would like to congratulate former VANEL employee Jasmin Flint on securing her new role as the Youth Development worker for North Cleethorpes Big Local.
Jasmin joined VANEL back in August 2016 and was seconded to the Springboard Programme which is run by North East Lincolnshire Council Community Learning Services, as a Youth Ambassador. As a Youth Ambassador, Jasmin worked to support young people aged 18 – 24, with particular emphasis being placed on supporting young people, not in employment, education or training (NEET). Sadly, Jasmin’s contract with VANEL expired in March as funding for the Springboard programme came to an end.
VANEL were able, however, to secure Jasmin a new role via VANEL Member organisation, Capacity Buildings Ltd. Through Capacity Buildings, Jasmin is commissioned by North Cleethorpes Big Local as their Youth Development Worker. She started her new role at the beginning of April. Big Local is a national programme and community-led opportunity which provides residents in 150 areas across England with at least £1m to use in a way that makes a positive and lasting difference to their community. The programme, which is funded by the Big Lottery and managed by Local Trust, targets areas across the country which have, in the past, been overlooked in terms of funding and recourses. North Cleethorpes is one such area.
As Big Local’s Youth Development Worker, Jasmin will be going out into the community and speaking to young people aged 14 – 24 who live in North Cleethorpes, about what it is they would like to see introduced into their community. From there, Jasmin plans to set up a focus group which young people can attend to discuss their ideas about how Big Local funding should be spent in order to make it a better place for young people to live and work. The information she gathers from these focus groups will then be discussed at the Big Local Committee meetings which take place each week. Ultimately, Jasmin hopes to reach out to as many young people as possible and empower them with the knowledge they need in order to help shape the future of North Cleethorpes for the benefit of this, and future generations.
VANEL would like to wish Jasmin all the best with her new role and good luck for the future.
