Police Ride Along Scheme

Anyone over the age of 18 living within the force area can apply to accompany officers on patrol to gain an insight into the reality of policing.

A spokesman for the Communities Team – which runs the scheme – said: “Its purpose is to provide an opportunity for individuals to gain a practical insight into the nature of police work – especially stop search – across the whole range of routine patrol activities and all non-sensitive areas and support functions.

“It can prove a useful exercise for community leaders, or those considering a career with the police.”
