Governance weekly for 22nd February
The weekly roundup from VANEL on good governance, charity trusteeship and non-profit leadership. News, information, resources and ideas. Complemented by our “aboutgovernance” online discussion space for leaders and trustees and our @aboutgovernance Twitter feed.
Only a brief update this week:
The monthly Governance roundup from NCVO is out for February. Read it here. This month it’s a practical set of advice on everything from safeguarding to whistleblowing. Negative stories about charities are doing the rounds at the moment in the national press, but there are practical steps that boards, chairs, trustees and managers can take to ensure their own organisations are adequately structured and secure.
And NCVO also have an article here addressing the current status of fallout from Oxfam and Haiti. Worth all trustees being aware of the current state of thinking that affects our sector.
A reminder that VANEL are running “Induction and Refresher Training for Trustees” on Monday 5th March from 1.30-3.30pm. Details here. Places are still available, so if you are a newish Trustee (or your board has new Trustees) then this quick two hour workshop might be for you. We’ll go over all the basics that you need to know in order to be a good and effective trustee! Contact me (Karl) direct for information or to book. £15 per person for members (£25 for everyone else).
And if you’re reading this governance summary this week, please also take a look at my update on GDPR here.
As always, more governance news from next week.
