Summer of Sport was a three day programme aimed at young people in the Immingham area aged 8 and above. The programme was combination of Sports and Dance aiming to signpost participants into local positive activities. The programme was also designed to educate the participants on how to live a healthy lifestyle using materials from Change4Life and showing how to adapt current lifestyles to become healthier.
The aim for the programme was to offer free taster session of different activities that they could potentially enjoy, which we could then assist the local community to develop further. It also was to reduce anti-social behaviour by engaging young people in positive activities and increasing their health and wellbeing. Over the event, we aimed to work with up to 60 young people giving them opportunity to access and try out new sporting activities, reduce anti-social behaviour and by raising aspirations.
The event itself was a success as the weather was great to take part in a range of activities over the three days outside. The activities were football, rounders’, kick-ball rounders’, quick cricket, dodge ball. Indoors, that’s where dance took place teaching participants different routines and cheer dance. Both of the sports and dance were effective with all of participants taking part in them and having the enthusiasm over the three day programme.
Overall, the children thoroughly enjoyed the programme and the Enfuse team can truly say it was a success. With a great help from coaches Lee and Anneliese and the staff from VANEL assisting, the day wouldn’t have been possible.
Summer For Sports is now looking at doing another event in Immingham again in 2014 for a longer period of time. For now, Summer For Sport’s next stop is Sidney Sussex Recreational Ground on the 19th, 21st and 22nd August 2013.
