Helping Young People Help Each Other to lead their Communities – the IGNITE programme reaches a milestone

As the National Lottery funded period closes for the VANEL IGNITE programme, we are very please to have managed to secure other new investment to continue some of the excellent work delivered by the team over the last three years.

So much of the same support offered to local young people through IGNITE can continue.

Throughout June 2019, our four youth mentors organised several IGNITE appreciation events as part of the team’s showcase celebrations including a Beach Sports Day on Cleethorpes beach; annual World Oceans Day activities; Make Music Day at Grimsby Minster and they then supported the Blue Lights Brigade Community Emergency Response Teams during Armed Forces Weekend in Cleethorpes. All these events benefited from pre and post event promotion in printed media and on the local radio.

Each year of the IGNITE programme we’ve worked with a group of youth mentors. This 2018/2019 group of mentors was Shaun, Jessica, Kirsty and Jean-Louis. Whilst they now move on into full time paid work or education, VANEL will continue to support students needing practical experience of working in the voluntary and community sector in the coming academic year from September 2019 so please so call Jenny to discuss on 01472 315437.

A big thank you to our team this year, and of course to the teams in the earlier years of the project.  A big thank you too to Jenny and Victoria who remain committed to IGNITE as it continues forward.

Some of the highlights and successes of the IGNITE programme over the past few years include: joint project work with many different local voluntary and community groups and statutory partners; beach cleans; river care; setting up new youth groups; music events; helping set up a VANEL TV You Tube channel and producing a mini-series to tell their stories; lots of media coverage, Facebook page; Twitter: @ignitegy and Instagram: @ignitevanel; helping young people secure national funding and mentoring support for their project ideas; helping young people’s fundraising campaigns and muchmore.

Please do keep in touch with us on this agenda we are still very keen to support and enable young people in our communities to get actively involved in all aspects of voluntary and community work.
