January RiverClean brings community together again to tidy up the Freshney
River Care events are scheduled throughout 2018 now, and the latest get together was on Saturday 27th January in the Duke of York Gardens, Grimsby.
Nearly 50 local people turned out in pretty miserable weather to volunteer to help with the valuable tidy up efforts. Nicole from the IGNITE team was there too helping out.
Volunteers of all ages, including whole families were there to get stuck in. There’s (unfortunately) always plenty of rubbish to pull out of the river but this time the notable (and large) items included a rocking horse, a pool table (!) and a suitcase. Many more bags of rubbish and recycling were also removed.
A great community effort from all involved. The river Freshney is flowing that bit better again on this stretch thanks to their efforts. If only we could encourage people not to inconsiderately pollute it in the first place!
The first of these events that we were involved with was way back in October.
Keep an eye out for details of future River Care events to see if you can get involved.
