IGNITE update for the start of 2018. New team member. New events.

Firstly the IGNITE team would like to welcome on board their latest team member – Olivia Hartley.

“Hello, my name is Olivia Hartley and I am the new Youth Leadership Worker for IGNITE here at VANEL. I have recently graduated from Nottingham Trent University with a 1st Class honours degree in Psychology. I am excited to begin my new post here as I will hopefully be gaining experience with different people whilst developing a variety of projects. I have a passion for voluntary work and have volunteered in my community from a young age, with my most recent venture being becoming a Samaritan’s listener.

I believe voluntary work gives an individual many skills, both personal and professional, and so I am looking forward to helping young people contribute to their community. My hobbies and interests include reading, watching comedies, and spending quality time with family and friends. A random fact about me is that I studied the psychology of fashion and beauty abroad in Nijmegen, The Netherlands.”

The IGNITE team is now Jenny, Victoria, Olivia, Nicole, Jean-Louis, Nicole, Danielle and Ellie. Contact them here.

Upcoming events

On Saturday 6th January there will be a Gig at Moon on the Water in Cleethorpes. The event features a number of local groups and is a fundraiser for a local charity. Kicking off at 7pm tickets are £3 each and are available on the door.

The event has been organised as a fundraising project by a young volunteer being supported and mentored by Victoria from the IGNITE team. Running an event like this is great experience for younger people and allows them to learn new skills. Come along on Saturday, have some fun and support a local charity and a younger volunteer.

Are you aged 18-30 with a great idea you’d like support getting into reality? That’s what the IGNITE team are here for – so get in touch.

There will be a series of RiverCare events taking place throughout 2018. The first is on 27th January from 10am-12noon in the Duke of York Gardens, Grimsby.

River Care events are in partnership with VANEL, the IGNITE team, Grimsby in Bloom, Keep Britain Tidy and of course the local community and all those volunteers who always get involved.

Meet at the Pavilion in the gardens on 27th January to help us out. Further contact details on the poster below.

The IGNITE team are also running a couple of “Communication Workshops” in February.

These are communication workshops for young people (aged 16-30) – run by the IGNITE team but open to any young volunteers who are running or thinking of running projects and want to learn more about better marketing, communications and promoting themselves.

Two sessions:
Beginners – Monday 12th Feb
Advanced – Friday 16th Feb

Both at VANEL offices in Grimsby from 9.30am-11.30am.

Limited places but free to young people. Booking essential so please contact Victoria at VANEL (victoria@vanel.org.uk) or 01472 315437.

The IGNITE Money Matters training programme continuesread about this programme (here) if you’re interested in being a Money Matters champion.

And finally – the IGNITE team are undertaking their annual survey of Perceptions people have of young people in their communities.

If you can share the survey around your communities – especially with those over 30! then that would be helpful.

The online link to the survey is here.
