An update from VANEL for September 2016
The VANEL Annual General Meeting (AGM) took place in September at the Parkway Cinema in Cleethorpes. A very different venue and an opportunity for us to try a different approach to our annual event. We’ve already reported back from that event and the “Valuing Volunteers” short film that we showcased at the event can be watched again here.
Developments and the staff team
One of our biggest developments recently has been the launch of the IGNITE project. This is our latest Big Lottery Reaching Communities funded project and you get information about the project here or read much more about the story behind it’s development here.
And with this new project came changes to the VANEL staff team. We’ve welcomed on board two new IGNITE specific team members – Victoria Russell and Lisa Anderson who are the IGNITE youth leadership workers. At the same time, Helen Pickett has joined us as Communication Assistant (and editor now of much of the news on this website and in the newsletters). Helen will also be working closely alongside the IGNITE team.
Also new is Vicky Ehret who is with us to deliver the Community Health Champions programme.
Our Intern programme has been going well too. Chris Luckman is the latest intern working with us and, amongst other projects, he has been instrumental in getting our HealthWin funding support initiative off the ground. Chris joining overlapped with Jasmine Dudhill leaving us. Jasmine was our previous Lincoln university sourced intern who was only with us a couple of months as she was successful in getting a full-time job she was hunting closer to where she lives.
And Vicky Campbell also left us in August after nearly nine years with us. She left to take up a fulltime teaching assistant post which she had been hoping for for a while now.
So quite a lot of hellos and goodbyes over the past few months. If you want to catch up on our staff, you can always meet them via our staff page here.
Projects and Programmes
A recent project – HealthWin – had a very short life, and within in it we supported a number of groups to apply for funding to support their own projects. This has been a great success (story here), but the project is now over.
So what projects and programmes have we got going on at present?
– IGNITE is our Young Leaders programme running for the next three years.
– This is supported by the Young Leaders Network running for the rest of this year supporting younger people into governance roles.
– Sportivate is here to support groups looking to fund their health and sport activity related projects.
– We continue to partner with Anglian Water on their “Keep it Clear” campaign.- And we’ve recently started partnering with O2 on their “Think Big” project.
– Community Health Champions continues this year and is on the lookout for new volunteer champions.
– We are one of 24 organisations across Greater Lincolnshire now delivering part of the MOVE project in North East Lincolnshire.
As well as these programmes we of course continue with our other service provision and Member/Friend support and continue to provide our quality accredited Volunteering Service for Northern Lincolnshire.
Contact VANEL direct if you would like to discuss any of our projects and programmes.
