Blue Lights Brigade now well underway with first volunteers onboard
The Big Lottery Awards for All funded Blue Lights Brigade project was launched a few months ago across North East Lincolnshire. The early stage of this project has been the recruitment of volunteers drawn from the uniformed emergency services. And we’ve just moved to the next stage of the project as these first volunteers took part in their first training day.
The training day took place at West Marsh Community Centre and was a full day Lincolnshire Volunteer Card training session tailored specifically to their needs.
Twelve people attended and received their Lincolnshire Volunteer cards upon completion.
The group included retired ( or soon to retire) policing and fire service colleagues who in the future will be giving up their time to support people and organisations in our communities. A number of people have already been organising their volunteering options.
This bespoke project is specifically designed to capture the wide ranging skills, knowledge and experience these individuals can offer and is supported by the local statutory authorities .
Examples of support will include fire and crime prevention presentations to those most vulnerable, thereby reducing victims across NEL .
A further training day is proposed for late November for others who were unable to attend the first time around.
