Volunteering Opportunities with Harbour Place
‘Harbour Place Day Centre aims to serve those who may be considered vulnerable or socially excluded within the community, through actions which promote positive choices in people’s lives’.
For the last 20 years, Harbour Place Day Centre has worked to improve the health and wellbeing of some of North East Lincolnshire’s most vulnerable people. The facility, which is located on Albert Street West, Grimsby, has a small team of experienced staff and volunteers who work to ensure that those who are most vulnerable within our society have access to the services they need.
Harbour Place Day Centre offers services for non-residential, day to day support for people aged 16 or over, within a welcoming and non-judgemental atmosphere. The beneficiaries of the facility include the homeless, the socially excluded, people with mental health issues, people who self-harm, people with substance abuse issues, people on low incomes and the elderly, to name just a few. Users can benefit from a range of services that the day centre provides such as personal hygiene facilities, drop in sessions from specialist health care professionals, support finding employment and accommodation, as well as more basic things such as food and clothing, to name a few. Harbour Place, in partnership with North East Lincolnshire Council, also run a Street Outreach programme. The programme works to find people who are sleeping rough, get them off the streets by providing them with emergency accomodation and supporting them to ensure that they never have to sleep rough on the streets again in the future.
The work that Harbour Place carries out depends highly on the team of volunteers who freely give their time to support this fantastic cause. There are currently a number of volunteering opportunities available with Harbour Place for people aged 18+. First class certificated training is offered to support the volunteers in their work in partnership with local training providers. As well as basic training such as Drugs Awareness, Sexual Health courses, Basic Food Hygiene, Safe Guarding Adults and emergency first aid, volunteers can access a wide variety of courses to suit their own personal training needs. Harbour Place also assist volunteers who are on higher or further education courses ranging from Health and Social Care to Social Worker in Training with Student Placements or study skills.
