Thanks to everyone who attended the VANEL AGM

Thanks to everyone who attended the VANEL AGM on 10th October.  This year we were at Grimsby Neighbourhood Centre and were joined by a good number of our Members, Friends and guests to help support us through the formalities of our yearly requirement of an AGM.

This year we were keeping things simple and we simply networked before and after the business of the meeting and it was very good for VANEL Trustees and Staff to catch up with members and groups face to face.

Thanks to Grimsby Neighbourhood Centre team for looking after us and thanks to everyone who attended.

Notes from the AGM that are relevant if you didn’t attend:

Vice-Chair Mandy Johnson chaired the meeting after apologies from our Chair Steve Beasant who unfortunately had unavoidable business elsewhere. Thanks, Mandy, for stepping in.

The Annual Report was shared (here) along with the financial overview (contact Richard if you’d like details) and all approved.

It was formally agreed that the VANEL membership fee will once again remain set at £25 per year (less than the cost of a coffee each month!).  (And if you’re a member and want a reminder of what you can get from VANEL as part of your membership then please read this overview and then speak to any of the team to get support.)

But very importantly there were changes to the VANEL Trustee Board.  We said goodbye to three Trustees who were stepping down.  Lesley Charlesworth-Browne of St Andrews Hospice retires after one year, Neil Barber of West Marsh Community Centre steps down after six years and it was a huge goodbye to Lesley Brown of Gardiner Hill Foundation who leaves us after 16 years as a faithful Trustee.  A big thank you to all three of them for their support.

Other Trustees, Steve Beasant, Mandy Johnson, Alan Jones continue for another year as Trustees and we thank them for their support.  And then we welcomed onboard two new Trustees.  Victoria Russell joins us representing Grimsby in Bloom.  Victoria previously was employed on our IGNITE programme but is now in teacher training but is very active in the local community.  And Marcus Czarnecki joins us as a co-opted, independent Trustee. Marcus too has a long history with VANEL working with us in the past and it’s good to see him back to support us.  Welcome onboard to both Victoria and Marcus.

And finally

On 30th September it was 21 years since VANEL was formed. So we had a quiet celebration at the AGM with a birthday cake. Happy birthday to us!

Celebrating VANEL’s 21st birthday and saying goodbye to Lesley Brown (r). Mandy Johnson (m), Paula Grant (l)
