Littlecoates Primary Academy Green Influencers Group

An active Green Influencers Group at Littlecoates Primary Academy in the West Marsh of Grimsby.  The group involves children from the school and is led by the staffing team at the school.

The school are very keen to engage the young people with outdoor education and to enrichment the curriculum. We currently support a 1 hour after school Green Influencers club once a week. To form this group, they needed a minimum of x10 young people from years 4, 5 and 6 to sign up.

The current After School Littlecoates Leavers Club have been sharing their time each week between the allotment area (tidying and harvesting for the winter), developing a small nature reserve at the front of the school (adding a rockery, feeding stations, a variety of plants for a range of purposes, building planters/benches and providing shelter from the south westerly winds) and developing the larger project Wildlife Reserve (woodlands) at the back of the school. They began larger Wildlife Reserve development by planting some hedge row bushes from the Woodland Trust in November. They will need further support from a range of experts as this area is established in the long term. We hope to have the Small Nature Reserve completed in the Spring Term.

They have applied for some extra funding from Orsted to be able to add some interactive information boards to enrich the visitor experience and The Royal Horticultural Society, as part of their School Gardening Future Proofing and Sustainability Fund, to help encourage their community to grow their own food and to combat climate change.

Watch this space, there will be lots more exciting updates to come from this hard-working team….
