Information on VANEL’s LVC Programme and Upcoming Presentation Event
The North East Lincolnshire Volunteering Service, [nationally quality assured by the National Association for Voluntary Organisations and collaborating with Lincolnshire Volunteer Centres and Children’s Links (Horncastle)] are currently delivering this quality assured and tested volunteer award across North East Lincolnshire for individual volunteers to benefit from.
VANEL has already developed and enhanced the skills and knowledge of people in VCS groups across North East Lincolnshire who volunteer with groups supporting the local community safety partnership. VANEL and Children’s Links are continuously working together to keep the content of the Volunteer Card updated and relevant to volunteers in North East Lincolnshire.
We are delighted that the Tribune Trust agreed to sponsor a further 10 LVC places to enable young people studying for uniform and public service qualifications at The Grimsby Institute to gain an additional qualification. This enables these volunteers to share their recent LVC achievement with VCS groups that have achieved the VANEL Supporting Volunteers Award so volunteers know the group where they will be volunteering meets safeguarding requirements, health and safety standards and offers good support to its volunteers. These volunteers can show that they too have been ‘quality assured’ on production of their card and certificate.
The LVC is available for all volunteers in North and North East Lincolnshire who are planning to volunteer for VCS groups or who may already be part of charities or organisations and volunteering in the voluntary and community safer communities sector. Some people who volunteer are also unemployed or serving community orders with the probation service so this could also help towards their finding paid employment and community rehabilitation.
On the morning of Thursday 16th March 2017, volunteers from the Grimsby Institute, members of VANEL’s IGNITE team and Jasmin Flint from Springboard, will be presented with their quality assured LVC certificate and card from Jill Hughes, the High Sheriff of Lincolnshire. The presentation event will take place in the Gallery on the Grimsby College campus. IGNITE’s Youth Development Manager Jenny Hodson and VANEL’s Community Cohesion Officer Steve Lynn will be in attendance, supporting the event and the team.
The grant monies were awarded to cover the costs of training the students who will go on to support the local crime and disorder reduction agenda as volunteers. All costs of training materials, promotional leaflets, certificates, frames, cards and wallets were covered. The course comprised 6 two hour practical training sessions with evaluations and feedback forms being completed. We hope that the programme was a positive experience for the students and that they will recommend the course to others subject to the volunteer service being able to secure funding from other sources to offer more sessions.
If volunteers are able to find funding to pay for their own training then we will offer future courses on a paid for basis. Thanks to the investment from the Tribune Trust we have been able to use this as a catalyst to secure some new funding for small groups of new volunteers to benefit.
