VANEL secures National Lottery Heritage Fund support

Voluntary Action North East Lincolnshire has received a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant of £10,000 for an exciting heritage project, to create VANEL community heritage TV programmes, in Grimsby and Cleethorpes.

Made possible by money raised by National Lottery players, the project focuses on North East Lincolnshire residents volunteering alongside local historians to produce their own programmes about heritage where they live.

Supported through The National Lottery Heritage Fund, the project will enable local residents to discover the places, spaces and people who created history where they live. Stories about famous buildings such as: Cleethorpes Pier; Waltham Windmill; and famous residents such as John Hurt; and places such as Grimsby Docks.

VANEL is an organisation that works with community residents and groups to help them to learn through volunteering. It will help 50 participants from across the area to get involved in this project. Working with local historians and other residents the participants will gain a deeper understanding of people and places that are part of the area’s local heritage. It will also teach them valuable new communication skills to help develop the programme content and present it on our community TV channel.

Commenting on the award, Paula Grant, Chief Officer said: “We are delighted to receive this support thanks to National Lottery players and are confident the project will enable residents to get involved with creating programmes about their heritage.”
