Date for your diary! Charitie Robinson’s ‘Battle of the Bands’ event will take place on Friday 31st March 2017 at Moon on the Water. So far we have eight acts participating in the fundraising event and talent competition. Tickets on sale now from Voluntary Action North East Lincolnshire.
Mini WE Day is back for its third consecutive year! This years event ‘Social Action Club’ aims to motivate and empower young people to come up with innovative solutions to social issues, and equip them with the tools they need in order to make a difference. This years Mini WE Day event will take place on Thursday 6th April 2017 at the Grimsby Institute. On Friday 17th February, Radio presenter and transgender icon Stephanie Hirst delivered a guest talk at Franklin Colleges second pride event. Stephanie spoke to students, teachers and members of the public about her journey to self acceptance and the importance of celebrating people’s differences.
VANEL’s IGNITE team are organising their first ever World Oceans Day event! The event will take place on Tuesday 30th May 2017 at Cleethorpes Discovery Centre from 10am – 4pm, and include nature walks, conservation talks and the launch of IGNITE’s Virtual Reality Experience, ‘Pipes Away!’ The event is free to attend and fun for all the family. Keep Thursday 6th April free as ‘Mini’ WE Day is returning to North East Lincolnshire for its third consecutive year. This years event “Social Action Club 2017” is being organised by founder of Counting Hope and Diana Award holder, Andy Green. The event is open to all school’s within Yorkshire and Humber, and is free to attend.
A heartwarming message from IGNITE Project Leader and Samaritans’ Volunteer Holly Almond. Holly is working with IGNITE to raise funds to redesign the Grimsby branch of the Samaritans. Holly wants to make the building a more uplifting place for service users and volunteers to visit, and make it friendly for disabled people.
We are pleased to report 18-year-old social action campaigner and friend of VANEL, Molly Dixon, has been awarded an Associate Fellowship with The Royal Commonwealth Society. The Diana Award holder received the honour following years of involvement with social action projects and community work. Read on to find out more.
On Monday 6th February, VANEL’s IGNITE team showcased the work we have been doing with young people at the launch of a Resilience and Relationships event at Havelock school. The event, which was organised by the R&R team in partnership with NEL council.
Back in December VANEL’s IGNITE team supported a young person as they organised a charity five-a-side match in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust. Here is a letter from the charity thanking the IGNITE team for their support.
