Local Charities Day Friday 16th December 2016
The work of small local charities and community groups is being recognised as part of the newly announced ‘Local Charities Day‘ on Friday 16th December 2016. Led by the Office for Civil Society as part of DCMS, the day will celebrate and shine a spotlight on the work of small local charities and community groups. The main focus is to provide local charities with a platform to promote the fantastic work they are doing and the many, varied benefits they bring to people, communities and good causes.
Minister for Civil Society, Rob Wilson, said: “On Local Charities Day, I want us all to shout from the rooftops about small, local charities: their energy, commitment, expertise and the benefits they bring to their communities. We have already done a huge amount of work for small and local charities, reducing regulation and introducing a Bill to parliament which will make Gift Aid even more flexible and generous”.

LocalGiving’s #GiveMe5 campaign will be going live between 00:00am and 23:59pm on this year’s Local Charities Day. For every £5 donation made to a participating charity to the #GiveMe5 campaign, that charity will be placed into a draw to be doubled by an extra £5 of match funding. Up to 1,000 £5 donations will be matched as part of this promotion. Donations of other amounts will not be included in the draw.
