‘The Armed Man’ at Grimsby Central Hall
The Grimsby Philharmonic Society open their 165th Season with the popular ‘”The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace” by Welsh composer Karl Jenkins at Grimsby Central Hall on Saturday 15th October 2016 at 7:30pm.
Commissioned for the millennium by Britain’s Royal Armouries and dedicated to the victims of the Kosovo crisis, this work by Karl Jenkins is a contemporary example of a mass based on the 15th century French song L’homme armé (The Armed Man). Set within the framework of the Christian mass, ‘The Armed Man’ is a major choral work which uses both sacred and secular texts. It is a powerful and compelling account of the descent into, and terrible consequences of war.
‘The Phil’ will be conducted by their chorus master, the award winning Susan Hollingworth. They will be joined by soloist Clare Wheat and accompanied by the Grimsby Philharmonic Ensemble.
It promises to be a fabulous evening, supporting both the choir and the Central Hall. The Box Office can be contacted on (01472) 355 025.
