Grimsby Docks Demolition – Contacting Councillors
The date is near for the North East Lincolnshire Council committee to consider ABP’s plan to demolish part of the historic dock, or Kasbah, including the Cosalt building. The Victorian Society has launched a petition which attracted over 250 signatures in the first 48 hours and once again reflects the national significance of these buildings.
You still have a chance to make sure none of the elected members can say they’re not aware of the strength of feeling about these plans.
If you are a resident of the Grimsby, Cleethorpes, Immingham area please write to your local councillor before Wednesday ( you can find a link to councillor details on our Facebook page or go direct to https://www.nelincs.gov.uk/councillors-and-democracy/councillors-mps-meps/ward-funding/wards/
If you are not a resident, please write to the leader of the council, councillor Ray Oxby at ray.oxby@nelincs.gov.uk
Remember that the demolition plans are pre-approved by law and the council needs to take urgent action such as an Article 4 direction to put a hold on those plans and seriously consider making the historic docks a conservation area.
Remember also that this isn’t an either/or decision between the jobs offered by the wind industry and heritage.
But also please remember to express your own views. When North East Lincolnshire Council was created they came up with a slogan – “Better Because We’re Closer to the People.” They abandoned that slogan when they moved their staff out of town to Europarc, but the principle should still be true.
