Trustees’ Week is coming soon. Here’s our Governance weekly for 2nd November

The weekly roundup from VANEL on good governance, charity trusteeship and non-profit leadership. News, information, resources and ideas. Complemented by our “aboutgovernance” online discussion space for leaders and trustees and our @aboutgovernance Twitter feed.

13th-17th November is National Trustees’ Week. Every year VANEL makes the most of Trustees’ Week to celebrate the role of volunteer trustees and committee members and to use it as an excuse to talk about ways to improve governance in our sector. This year is no different. We’ve got a “Governance Challenge workshop” on Wed 15th which is open to all our member organisations, and on Friday we’re running an internal event talking with our IGNITE team looking in detail at how they can encourage the groups they work with to get their governance working well.

I’ll also be attending the NCVO Trustee Conference in London on the 14th and will be reporting back from there on national trends and approaches.

For details of the Governance Challenge workshop see last week’s news here. And if you’re interested in the new Charity Governance Code then we’ll be looking at that in some detail during the session.

Also, don’t forget that if you are a NCVO member, many of their excellent trustee and governance resources will be free to download during trustees week. See information about this here. Make the most of your membership!

“Induction and Refresher Training for Trustees”. The last of our scheduled sessions for 2017 is today (3rd November) – the next will be on Tue 9th Jan. But these sessions can also be arranged specifically for your whole committee or board. Get in touch if you’d like a bespoke version of this training for your newer Trustees.

And finally, a thought provoking piece to read from ACEVO –Is the nature of leadership changing?

More news next week…
