IGNITE: Resilience and Relationships Framework Event at Havelock Academy
On Monday 6th February, two of VANEL’s IGNITE team, Jenny and Helen, had the pleasure of attending the launch of the Resilience and Relationships Framework at an event at Havelock Academy. The event was organised by the Resilience and Relationships (R&R) team and North East Lincolnshire Council. The R&R team are made up of Paul Caswell MBE, Head of the Young Peoples Support Service, Caroline Barley, Prevention and Wellbeing Manager, and Jenny King, Family Hub Cluster Coordinator and Aspirations and Teen Parent Lead.
The event served as a platform for organisations working with young people in NEL to showcase their work and opened with a talk from the Academy’s Principle, Mrs Wendy Jackson. Mrs Jackson delivered a speech about the importance equipping young people with the tools they need in order to be resilient in times of difficulty, and live a life which is fulfilling and autonomous. In order to achieve this, the R&R team in partnership with NEL Council have put together a Resilience and Relationship framework which aims to address some of the key challenges facing young people across North East Lincolnshire today. Such challenges include, but are not limited to, mental ill health, substance misuse, family breakdown, relationships, bereavement, crime, and bullying.
One of the main areas the framework hopes to address is the issue of teen pregnancy and helping young people to have the knowledge and confidence to make informed choices with regards to their relationships and sexual health. According to the R&R framework, teen pregnancy is seen as a key indicator of poor relationships, low self-esteem and confidence. These issues of course can spill over into many other aspects of a young person’s life, and could prevent them from taking full advantage of the opportunities that they are presented with. In order to try and combat this, the R&R frameworks draws together local systems directly supporting young people aged 0-19 to understand, promote and share intelligence about current provision and to develop prevention and early help services for the future. Ultimately, the programme is about more than simply reducing teen pregnancy or encouraging safe sex, it is about supporting young people when they find themselves in any kind of difficulty and empowering with the knowledge and confidence to become the best version of them.

The event served as the perfect opportunity to showcase the R&R framework to organisations working with young people and allow them to network with other organisations which they may know little or nothing about.
IGNITE, held an information stand to demonstrate the work we have been doing with young people since the programme started last August. The event was also home to a number of workshops that attendees could participate in and gain a deeper insight into the types of services they offer.
