“Enfuse 2” is getting underway
VANEL is delighted to announce that operations are well and truly underway with our newest Reaching Communities Programme, “Helping Young People to help each other to lead their Communities”. The three year programme, which is funded by the National Lottery’s Big Lottery Fund, and for now goes under the working title of “Enfuse 2”, aims to inspire, support and motivate young people both to volunteer and get involved in paid community development work in order to become leaders within their local communities.
Overseeing the programme is Youth Leadership Manager Jenny Hodson. Jenny was the Youth Leadership mamanger for the project’s predecessor, “Enfuse” (“Helping Young People Help Each Other to Help Themselves”). Working alongside Jenny are two of the project’s newest recruits, Youth Leadership Worker’s, Victoria Russell and Lisa Anderson. Victoria, 22, is a Basketball England Level 2 Coach, and at the age of 19 was the youngest female in the country to have reached this level. For the past 2 years she has voluntarily coached the Grimsby Rugrat’s under 13s team once a week. In July this year Victoria graduated from the University of Hull with a BA (Hons) degree in Criminology and Sociology. Lisa, a former teaching assistant at Ormiston Maritime Academy in Grimsby, has a BSc in Psychology and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education, both from the University of Hull. She also possesses a Level 3 Diploma in Youth Work. The team here at VANEL would like to congratulate both of them on their new posts and wish them a warm welcome.
Jenny, Victoria and Lisa will be working together with four part-time Youth Leadership Mentors, who, come September, will be in their final year of their undergraduate degree. As a team they will be recruiting young people from the local area, delivering high quality advice and support to young volunteers and their host organisations. The idea behind the project is that by getting young people to volunteer, they can develop their skills, build up their confidence and develop new ideas. Ultimately, “Enfuse 2” aims to encourage each of the volunteers’ to realise their leadership potential, and recognise that they are the mechanism by which positive changes within the community can occur. This programme works with, compliments and builds upon our Awards for All funded “Young Leaders” project running until March 2017 which is developing a peer and mentor support network for young leaders.
