National Community Clear Up Day
We would like to draw your attention to the recent announcement about the Government’s first ever Community Clear Up Day!! This is a ‘national spring clean’ to be held on Saturday 21 March 2015, the first day of spring, with the aim of sprucing up the high streets, residential and business areas, villages and parks.
Whether you’re a group of friends and neighbours, a litter clean-up group, community organisation or society, a local business, a school or on your own, everyone is urged to roll up their sleeves and get behind the nationwide spring clean in order to spruce up our favourite public places.
There are already many community and corporate groups around the country involved in regular litter picking activities. This national initiative, being delivered by the Department for Communities and Local Government in partnership with Keep Britain Tidy, wants to give these groups the recognition they deserve and encourage other groups – great and small – to help end the scourge of litter. It is also urging the manufacturers of items commonly associated with littering to join in and contribute to the clear up of our streets and public places. It’s amazing how small actions can add up to transform local spaces from an eyesore to an asset across the country.
If you would like to arrange a litter-pick event in North East Lincolnshire let us know! We at North East Lincolnshire Council can offer support by providing bin bags, litter picks, high visibility vests, assist with risk assessment and advice and will arrange to collect the waste bags at the end of the session. Contact North East Lincolnshire Council and let us know your plans before 16th March. Paul Paton paul.paton@nelincs.gov.uk (01472 323423) or Sue Pearson sue.pearson@nelincs.gov.uk (01472 325812).
