Once again, the first week in November will be National Trustees Week (2 – 6 November).
VANEL is always supportive of this national initiative to celebrate and support trustees (or committee members, board members of whatever term your organisation uses). Trustees do an invaluable task supporting and steering their voluntary sector organisation and are often the ‘forgotten’ volunteers.
This year of course charities and voluntary groups have been battling new problems and have had to adjust and adapt and that means the volunteer trustees will have been more needed than ever.
So during Trustees Week why not make sure you say a big thank you to your own trustees.
And maybe now is a time to think about how your governance is fairing? Can you see room for improvement to help steer your organisation forward? There are tools such as the Charity Governance Code which you can use to assess your governance against good practice to look for areas to improve.
During Trustees Week look out for free or heavily discounted governance resources from organisations such as NCVO. There will be webinars to participate in too.
VANEL will post news and ideas throughout the week and we’re also promoting your own volunteer vacancies too. If you’re in need of people on your committee please let us know (via firstname.lastname@example.org) and we’ll promote your opportunities. If you’ve got other requirements or issues too then this is a good week to ask about them. Drop Karl an email during the week and he’ll try to address your questions.
More about Trustees Week here and the latest governance blog from NCVO is worth a read here too. Watch the VANEL blog during the week.
