VANEL’s activities as part of the BBO MOVE AND Steps Forward Projects, which help support people to get back into work, have included the recent acquisition of a an allotment on the Littlecoates site. Some of the people involved with our programmes enjoy the opportunity to get out and about on this new allotment and it’s been a great benefit to all involved.
Amongst other things this allotment would have benefited from the use of a shed to store equipment and tools but we thought that this would not be found for some time. However through the initiative of one of the participants, Nathan Blythe, and the actions of Glyn Atkinson of the Allotment Committee, and the kindness of Councillor Ron Shepherd, we were able to access one much sooner than we thought.
Councillor Shepherd contacted us after he became aware of our project through Nathan and said that he had some sheds which he wished to give to a good cause and asked if we would like to choose one. We jumped at the chance and the participants on the project visited, and selected one. Not only did Councillor Shepherd give us this shed free of charge but he also delivered it to the site. The participants on the project thank him for his generous donation and it has certainly been put to excellent use being now the focal point for our continuing work on the site. His kindness will be an asset to our progress in improving the lives of those working together on our allotment.
