Changes to Charity Commission Annual Returns
If you are a registered charity, then the next time your tax year ends – now we’re into 2018 – you’ll need to file your Annual Return with the Charity Commission differently. The information that a charity needs to record has changed for those charities where their financial year ends on or after 1 January 2018.
The new annual return will focus on gathering financial and regulatory information. Charities will have to use the new Update Charity Details service to amend registered details as these will no longer be a part of the annual return.
These changes are aimed at promoting transparency and accountability.
So it is probably prudent to start assessing now whether your charity needs to collect/record data differently so that you are ready when it is your turn to complete your Annual Return and use the Update Charity Details service.
BWB solicitors have put together a useful guide for charities outlining the changes. Have a look at it here.
