Giving Tuesday

The Charities Aid Foundation has said that this year’s Giving Tuesday, December 1st, featured a large rise in charitable giving, with many donation platforms reporting increases of up to 50% on last year’s, with £1.25m raised via JustGiving and over £6,250 being donated every minute on Visa cards.

The day also received widespread support from a range of high-profile stars, large businesses and politicians. The Cabinet Office also announced a range of new measures to help support social action.

Giving Tuesday was originally founded in the US in 2012, as an ‘antidote’ to the shopping-focused days of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It was launched in the UK last year, where it is run by the Charities Aid Foundation with the support of Blackbaud.
