Use Your Loaf: A Comic Fable

Use Your Loaf is a new comic fable, created and performed by Once Seen Theatre Company. Exploring themes of democracy, equality, voice and being stronger when we work together, Use Your Loaf follows the day to day life of bread making village Grain-over-Sands.

Potwallopers and Plumpers – Britain’s first secret ballot in Pontefract

Pontefract was centre stage in August 1872 when the first secret ballot in Britain was used to elect a Member of Parliament, allowing people to vote in secret by placing an ‘X’ on a ballot paper next to the name of their choice. Join David Evans and John Whitaker, Curators at Pontefract & Castleford Museums and Wakefield Museum, for a fascinating talk on the Pontefract secret ballot and its significance in the history of British democracy.

Still the Enemy Within + Q&A

This raw, gripping documentary offers insight into one of the most dramatic events in Britain’s history: the 1984 to 1985 Miners’ Strike. Through interviews and archival footage, the film takes us close into the first-hand experience of the miners. Followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers.
