Self Care Week
November 13, 2014
Don’t be left out in the cold, join NAViGO for Self Care Week 2014!
From 17 until 24 November it’s Self Care Week 2014, and this year’s theme is all about being healthy this winter.
NAViGO and partnering agencies have teamed up to support you to self-care for life and understand how to take better care of yourself and your family members, especially during the winter months, when seasonal illnesses increase.
Self-care is all about looking after yourself in a healthy way, whether it’s brushing your teeth, doing exercise to keep fit or making sure you take your medicines properly. It involves looking at what you can do and want to do, rather than focusing on what you are unable to do. It doesn’t mean you need to manage on your own, there is lots of help available and that’s what Self Care Week is all about, helping you to help yourself.
To beat those winter blues and keep healthy, make sure you eat well and stay active. Be mindful of yourself, health and happiness. Did you know, many common winter ailments don’t require antibiotics, and that visiting a pharmacy for advice and treatment is often your best bet.
Why not join us at the Grimsby Minster, Wednesday 19 November for the Living Longer Living Well event, offering helpful advice on mental health, pharmacies, A&E and how to stay active and healthy this winter. NAViGO will be present, promoting self-care, Open Minds service and the Community Mental Health Team for Older People, offering advice and support to you.
Kelly Moore, Dementia Engagement Project Worker for NAViGO, has been liaising with local carers and those with dementia to find out what kind of information they would need to help them take care during winter, and has joined forces with local partners to produce a pack of information all about staying healthy and well this winter. The winter warmer packs contain leaflets, useful contact details, handy hints and tips when planning a visit to the Doctor or hospital, energy fuel saving advice and much more.
A number of local activities, including visits to local coffee mornings and support groups such as Bernie’s club, are being held during Self Care Week to raise awareness about looking after your health. Come have a coffee, chat and grab your pack.
The packs will be handed out on the following days:
