Recycling Week
Enfuse’s Recycling Week within the shop aimed to show people that we have limited resources in our world and some of them are fast running out. Phil Simpson, the Enfuse recycling specialist development worker, said “I used the pop-up shop to launch and test an event idea that will involve the recycling of clothes at The Grimsby University Centre Freshers’ Week on 11th September. The idea is for young people to bring some old clothes they no longer want and swap them with someone else’s clothes that they do want and not throwing them away in landfill sites which are already overflowing!”
The success of this event means everyone is looking forward to the Get Trashed event at Grimsby Institute’s University Centre.
If you are interested in volunteering at this event as a DJ, reporter, or fashion expert, or on any other recycling-themed projects, contact Phil Simpson at philip@vanel.org.uk or call 01472 315437.
“Recycling week is something that is close to our hearts and we hope to encourage more people to recycle and live a sustainable lifestyle.”

Lifestyle Week
Lifestyle Week was all about showing young people that they could engage with their community in ways they might not expect. The shop had a balloon pit, Nintendo Wii, and musical instruments. Young people came in and took part in the various activities, sometimes staying in the shop for over an hour. This gave the Enfuse team an opportunity to talk to the young people and discuss ways that they could volunteer and enjoy the experience.
“The main goal of Enfuse is to help young people, we want to take their views on board and actually do something about them, assisting them in setting up projects to fulfil their aspirations and giving them skills and experience in whatever it may be that they are passionate about,” Joe Mager told the local newspaper, “Lifestyle Week is about showing young people that there is a large variety of ways to engage with their community.”
If you are interested in volunteering on any music-based projects with Enfuse, contact joe@vanel.org.uk or call 01472 315437
28th July – 3rd August – Employment Week
Employment Week
Enfuse’s employment week aimed at being a practical way from young people to get into employment. By helping young people to find and apply for jobs as well as advising on interview etiquette, Enfuse managed to get two people into interviews within the first day. Tom Plaskitt said “I think that giving people one-to-one conversations about jobs is the best approach.”
The event was a smaller version of an event called Your Next Step being hosted at the Grimsby Minster on August 29. Sophie Wilson said, “We have some great things lined up and we hope to engage with as many young people as possible to see if we can make a difference to unemployment in our area.”
This shop event was a huge success, making Your Next Step even more exciting for the team.
“Hopefully from the knowledge I’ve learnt in this job role I can help others get into work.”
Thomas Plaskitt to the Grimsby Telegraph
