Organised Dialogue: ‘Fostering The Future’
VANEL’s Restorative Justice Champion, Marcus Czarnecki invites old and new delegates to the 7th series of Organised Dialogues – themed ‘Fostering The Future’. The first dialogue will look at Childhood Poverty – not just lamenting its consequences – but challenging ourselves as individuals, seeking to understand it and discover what we can do to change it. Gandhi once reflected that ‘Poverty is the worst form of violence’.
The inspiration for the series – ‘Fostering The Future’ – comes from two sources:- The work of the Creating Strong Communities – Families First program in North East Lincolnshire Council which is pioneering a unique and exemplary way of working that makes a genuine difference to the lives of children. Also, inspiration comes from the pledge made by the Men of SGI-UK (Soka Gakkai International UK*) ‘to foster the youth’ – a pledge which is symbolised by the leaf of the Ginkgo tree – also called the grandfather grandchild tree because it takes two generations to bare its first flower. A symbol of the great care and patience that it takes to raise each child.
The dialogues, ongoing since 2009, have delved deeply into the cornerstones of our civil society and our humanity – looking at Justice and Identity from every possible angle. September’s dialogue will be the 67th event and will take place at West Marsh Community Centre on 14th September from. Doors open at 5:30 for a 6 pm start.
Finally, why dialogue? A dialogue is restorative in nature, imbued with the spirit of learning – it’s different from other types of meetings. It is listening – A dialogue is a place to develop and grow and change oneself rather than a place to state a case or win an argument or change the ‘other’. Guidance notes are on the reverse of the flyer and there is a longer guidance sheet attached.
