The funding will enable Climb 4 Limited to support Young People aged 16-26, experiencing poor Mental Health to set up and run a new Young Peoples Support Network. The two-year project will begin on the 1st April and Climb 4 aim to work with Community partners to engage and support 10 Volunteers to train to become Peer Mentors and form part of the Support Networks Planning Committee.
As part of their role the Volunteer Mentors will plan an activity programme including monthly Committee meetings, Peer support sessions, Training Opportunities, Employment Forums, IAG (Information and Guidance sessions) and a Sport and Expressive Arts Workshops. Once the programme is designed the volunteers will take part in the Marketing and Promotion of the Support Network Programme offering the planned activities to Young People within the wider Local Community. Our project will empower the volunteers residing in Grimsby, to create, run and manage a Support Network from ‘The Warehouse’, Freeman Street DN32 7AR. A need previously identified, the semi-structured programme, will include weekly fluid activities, chosen and planned by members. It will create stronger connections by providing a safe, non-judgmental environment and make the community more accepting of Mental Health by building stronger community engagement. Members will feel valued, improve their collective capabilities, develop a community voice, via our User Led model. Through a final Showcase they will share experiences/learning with the wider community.
Many of our target participants may feel excluded from mainstream activities, could demonstrate high levels of anxiety, may feel socially isolated, experience low self-esteem, and lack peer support. The programme aims to reduce the effect of these factors by building a Community Self Help Network run by Young People experiencing Poor Mental health to use their knowledge and experiences to help themselves and others to accept and manage their condition. This creative supportive network will build healthy relationships, overcome discrimination, and poor access to advice, support, training and employment. Using the network to empowering beneficiaries, building responsibilities, skills, by developing a community voice.
