Cleethorpes Pier Gardens plants collected and reallocated to green projects locally

As part of the regeneration of Pier Gardens, our Green Influencers project was one of the recipients of the plants that needed to be moved. Read more about our Spring replanting project

Pier Gardens in Cleethorpes is undergoing regeneration work (which you can find out all about here). As part of this, the plants and shrubs already in the gardens will be changed and improved but that means many of the current plants needed to come out.

Rather than waste these healthy plants, VANEL and Grimsby in Bloom were given the opportunity to dig up some of the plants and ‘re-home’ them.

VANEL was very pleased to be involved with this opportunity and our Green Influencers programme and our Allotments work are both immediately benefitting from this. We’re grateful to the Council for working with us on this.

Our Green Influencers groups are going strong across North East Lincolnshire. We currently working on seven groups and many of these directly benefitted from these new plants this week.

Sam Smith runs Green Influencers at VANEL and was down at Pier Gardens to select plants and organise the moving and reuse. Assisted by Rob Patchett who is supporting VANEL’s allotment in West Marsh and Darren Kirk who works with VANEL on our DIY and construction related issues. (Thanks Darren for your help and the use of your van).

The Council have posted the story and photos on their website here. https://www.nelincs.gov.uk/its-so-positive-to-see-the-area-being-improved-gardening-groups-help-in-pier-gardens-regeneration/

Grimby in Bloom were also involved at Pier Gardens and have taken plants back to reuse. https://www.facebook.com/GrimsbyinBloom

We’ll post more photos of our Allotment and the Green Influencers sites over the months as the gardens develop.

One group receiving the new plants was the Green Influencers Group at Immingham Family Hub. Sam Smith, Green Mentor says:

Everyone at the Immingham Family Hub was so excited to receive them and the children and families that have been working on the garden were over the moon. While we have added the larger plants to the garden, we have left some of the smaller ones for the children to do when we return after the Easter holidays. We still have some of the flower bed to finish neatly but we needed to get them in the ground as soon as we could.

You can keep an eye on all the good work that Green Influencers is doing with local young people via the GI Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/GreenInfluencersVANEL
