Lachlan’s Fun Day

It may not have been the weather that we were hoping for but there’s no doubt about it that Lachlan’s Family Fun Day was awash with excitement (pun intended).

As you may know already, 16-year-old Uniformed Services student, Lachlan Thain, approached the IGNITE team earlier in the year with the idea of holding a fundraising Family Fun Day. The three charities that he wanted to raise money for were St. Andrews Hospice, Counting Hope and The Teenage Cancer Trust. After months of hard work, and an unfortunate postponement, Lachlan’s Fun Day took place on Friday 19th May at Grimsby Rugby Club. Unfortunately for Lachlan, a number of stall holders and attraction owners who were scheduled to attend were unable to because of the weather. However, it wasn’t all doom and gloom, and despite the rain, there was still plenty of fun to be had both indoors and outside. The event was home to a number of attractions such as a bouncy castle, sweet kiosk, games station, Explorabubble and an indoor disco. Representatives from Lachlan’s three chosen charities were also in attendance. In spite of the bad weather, Lachlan’s family fun day raised just under £100, which was less than we would have hoped, but more than we started the day with. On a brighter note, we will be continuing our fundraising for Lachlan’s three chosen charities at VANEL’s upcoming World Oceans Day event which will take place on Tuesday 30th May at Cleethorpes Discovery Centre from 10 am – 4 pm. We hope you can join us there and help us bump up our fundraising total.
