Littlecoates Primary Academy has had a very active Green Influencers group for a long time now. It’s led by the VANEL team, most recently by Rob and Fumiko, and is very well supported in the school with the children getting very hands on and enthusiastic and has always had great support from the head, Nev.
This summer the garden has got better and better and has been so successful that the Green Influencers group has just won their second award of the summer.
Back in July the children, group and garden achieved their Level 4 RHS School Gardening Award (well done), but in September they were incredibly proud to achieve a SILVER award in the East Midlands in Bloom for “Best School Garden for Fruit and Vegetables”

As well as this silver award, there was a Judge’s Discretionary Award to Rob and Fumiko themselves who “inspire the gardening at Littlecoates with the children on a weekly basis with their enthusiastic approach, skills and knowledge, complementing the Headteacher’s vision and passion for the wider learning at Littlecoates”
The judges had a great visit to the gardens before the awards and were clearly pleased with what they saw. The children have thoroughly enjoyed their work in the garden and it shows in what they have achieved.
