Last week VANEL’s Community Health Champions (CHC) project held its first health information stand at Parkway Cinema in Cleethorpes.
The stand, which coincided with the senior’s screening session, engaged with 29 people over the course of nearly four hours, and provided members of the public with an array of information about health and wellbeing. The majority of people who approached the stand took information on eating healthier and exercising, COPD, lowering cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes. Running the stand was VANEL’s CHC project coordinator Vickie Ehret.
The response from visitors to the stand was fantastic with one lady excitedly stating: “what a great way of promoting health!”

Earlier in the month VANEL’s CHC project were invited to attend a session with Waltham Brownies. The invitation came the Brownies’ leader spoke to CHC project coordinator Vickie Ehret whilst at a CHC stand in Morrisons supermarket.
On Wednesday 18th January, Vickie visited the Brownies and delivered a talk on the importance of healthy eating and staying active. Whilst there the chidren were invited to play a number of health related games, and asked to guess how much sugar they thought there was in certain foods, particularly those that they might find in their school pack ups. They also had the opportunity to take part in a quiz, and a fruit tasting activity. At the end of the session the children were given 5 a day colouring sheets, sugar swap information and a badge.
The Brownie’s Leader contacted Vickie following the session saying: “Thank you so much for your time and input. I definitely learned something, so I’m sure the girls did too. They all looked like they were enjoying themselves and having fun. The session went well and there was a good mixture of activities for the girls”.
