Final Funding roundup for 2017

If your charity or community organisation is in need of funding then you’ll need to keep planning your funding applications over the coming weeks to take account of deadlines looming early in the new year. So in this last funding summary for 2017, here’s a few dates and reminders you need to know about.

Humberside Youth Association funding

The fourth and final round of HYA funding is open at present. The closing date is 31st January 2018 so you’ve only got just over a month to get applying. Full information about the fund is here and you can get information and support and apply via VANEL. So if you’ve got an idea on helping younger people to develop their physical, mental or spiritual capabilities through a project that needs funding, get thinking and applying.

Crime Reduction Fund

The CRF fund is now also into its last round. Applications will need to be in by 8th March 2018 and you can apply for up to £5000 for projects that will directly improve community safety. Full information about CRF is online here and, like HYA, enquiry or apply through VANEL.

In round 2 Successful applicants received funding to support things such as:
– delivering domestic abuse drop in surgeries in medical centres;
– providing short-term emergency night shelter and intervention for rough sleepers;
– Providing community safety problem solving techniques to empower and enable young people to work together with the police and other community safety partner organisations;
– art workshops providing support, aftercare & creative opportunities for those in recovery from addiction;
– and young people’s healthy relationships project targeting those at risk of becoming involved in crime and anti-social behaviour.

Whilst all relevant applications will be considered for CRF, the funding panel are particularly keen to fund projects that can clearly show a community benefit that address one or more of the following:

Deliver increasingly self-sustaining and safe communities
Build public confidence in the agencies involved in creating safer communities
Promote services to victims and the vulnerable that meet their needs

Capital spend can be funded, but where this is requested the funding panel would prefer to see a benefit to community crime reduction and safety rather than an investment or improvement just for the benefit of an organisation’s members.

Applicants that can show longer term impact rather than short term benefit are also more likely to be successful.

So although March is a few months away it can take time to prepare an application that really provides good evidence and a project plan that can meet the CRF panels criteria. If you need extra advice please contact Richard at VANEL. Remember that all the necessary information is here.

Heritage Lottery Funding

There was a roundup of funding pots from the Heritage Lottery fund last week (see here) but a reminder that their Young Roots fund has a closing date of 18th January 2018. Take a look back at our notes from last week and get applying!

Tampon Tax funding deadline in January

The Tampon Tax Fund allocates funds generated from the VAT on sanitary products to projects that improve the lives of disadvantaged women and girls. This is a significant fund which requires applications of £1m+. And the next deadline is also very short – 28th January 2018. But if you have a project that can address the objectives of this fund then you’ll need to go here to find out more.

And finally for this roundup:

Ragdoll Foundation funding for young people

The Ragdoll Foundation is interesting and provides funding up to £50k (but normally £5-20k) at any time through a rolling application process. Funding is for projects supporting young children in their early years, but can be used to support children up to 18 years old if the project is right. If this is the age group that you can work with, then find out more about the fund, their ethos and what you need to do to apply here.

Finding Funding

If you are an organisation in VANEL membership then please feel free to get in touch so that we can help you to do a funding search. VANEL have access to the Grants Online database and can do searches for you to find suitable funding to apply for. Please contact Karl or Richard at VANEL to ask for support.

VANEL can also provide ‘critical friend’ support for you as you prepare your funding applications. We won’t write funding bids for you – you need to do that yourself – but as a critical friend with years of experience in successfully applying for funding we can give you guidance and help you maximise your chances of success. This service is not free, but is cost effective and based on the time and effort you want us to put in with you. Again, contact Richard or Karl at VANEL for next steps advice.

See you in 2018.
