National Emergency Alerts

National Emergency Alerts

In 2022 the first test of the National Emergency Alert system was carried out. This system is used to alert people close to risk of flooding, fires, extreme weather or other emergencies.

This is a government system and is only used by official authorities. It does not need to know your phone number to work – every device near to the emergency area is alerted. If you have a modern smart phone or tablet you are probably compatible with the alerts. Older phones will not receive the alerts but the emergency services will alert you in other ways.

It’s important to be aware of these new alerts so you can find out more at www.gov.uk/alerts
