Think before you flush

With scares around toilet roll shortages, Anglian Water has been keen to remind people that flushing alternatives to loo roll down your toilet is a bad idea. If you’re using something other than toilet paper then it shouldn’t be flushed, but should be binned instead.

VANEL has been sharing Anglian Water Keep it Clear messages for a few years now. We all want to make sure that our sewer system keeps working and our beaches and environment are kept clean, and Anglian Water wants you to do your part by thinking about what you put down your toilet and drains.

So think before you flush it. And if you’re stuck at home, don’t take it out on your drains. Pouring grease and gunk down your sink and plugs will only help clog up the sewers. Dispose of grease and fats separately if you can, so as little as possible goes down the drain.

Find out a bit more here and visit the Anglian Water Keep it Clear website here. There’s lots of information about the part you can play in ensuring water is used well; our sewers are kept clear and work as they should; and our beaches and natural environment are kept clean.

Normally VANEL would be handing you out goodies such as gunk pots and scrapers, but at the moment you’ll not find us out and about I’m afraid. But we’re sure you can find other simple ways to keep your plugs and toilets blockage free. Remember the 3 P’s – only pee, poo and paper (toilet) go down the loo !

Through these difficult times Anglian Water will still be working hard to ensure the water supply and sewerage systems are operational for us. So let’s all play our part.
