Safe and Well – A Humberside Fire and Rescue Service Conference – 9 November 2017

Humberside Fire and Rescue are pleased to invite you to attend a free Humberside wide conference on Safe and Well services offered by Humberside Fire and Rescue Service. This event will focus on the Service’s approach to prevention activities with an aim of promoting wider health and wellbeing outcomes for our communities of Humberside.

The conference programme will officially launch our Safe and Well delivery and promote an opportunity to build a long term partnership approach that will benefit the local community.

The aim of Safe and Well visits is to empower and motivate people to make positive lifestyle choices to improve their health, wellbeing and fire safety.

A brief background and overview

The Chief Fire Officers Association (CFOA) have been working with Public Health England, NHS England, Local Government Association, Age UK and other partner agencies nationally to develop an approach in using fire services to contribute to health and wellbeing outcomes. The collective team, working on ‘Fire as a health asset’ have produced a framework for Safe and Well visits which provides a non-exhaustive consideration of areas in which Fire and Rescue Services can provide preventative services and interventions. These areas include:

Mobility
Falls and Frailty
Mental health and learning disabilities
Loneliness and social isolation
Smoking and E-Cigarettes
Alcohol
Drugs
Prescription medicines
Hoarding
Safety of under 5s
Home security

A strategic regional collaboration group involving the Fire Service, as well as health leads, have initially set four main areas for Safe and Well visits, these being smoking cessation, falls and frailty, winter warmth/cold homes and social isolation.

As part of this conference, we aim to officially launch our offer around the four main areas, as well as consider other local areas of focus with you as our partners, which may contribute to community and partnership outcomes

Who should attend?

Attendance for this free event is welcomed from anyone across Humberside that has an interest in delivering positive outcomes for members of the community by providing interventions and promoting wider wellbeing. It is particularly appropriate to colleagues working within health and wellbeing including NHS and public health, local authorities, housing organisations, police, health promoting agencies and third sector organisations.

We would urge you to book early as places will be limited. Conference place allocations will aim to be spread as fairly as possible across key sectors throughout Humberside to ensure a wide variety of organisations are represented, both professionally and geographically.
