Eight Week Itinerary
Please note that whilst the course is run over an 8 week period it isn’t full time.
WEEK 1 – Icebreaker and introductions. Including discussion on programme content for the remainder of the programme.
Q&A session.
Transport, lunch and behaviour contact signed.
WEEK2 – At AIS TRAINING –
- Safety induction on issue of boots
- Overview of the programme learning points and expectations
- Introduction to working at heights Inc. walking the open mesh floor
- Types of jobs available in the W@H sector
- Focus on the use of PPE
- Donning harness
- Climbing with harness and lanyards
- W@H
- Ladder rescue with the dummy
- Escape from mock nacelle rescue dummy
- Rescue of each other – working as a team of rescuers to effect a rescue requiring teamwork
- Recap of week 2
- Fire awareness
- Live firefighting/ smoke filled escape
- Manual handing
- Moving a load with an improvised pully
- Skeleton skid

Open evening for an introduction into the engineering and renewables industry including talks from local firms and a meet with ETICB.
WEEK 6 – Employer/ training provider visits – TBC
WEEK 7
CV/ employability SUPPORT – Including CV building. Look at skills needed for a CV and support on how to professionally approach employers/ tutors etc. for a reference.
Look at interview tips and expectations including video clips and role play.
Look at Provisional driver’s license applications and apply.
Look at what to wear and how to present at an interview including suit shopping where required with budgeting support.
WEEK 8 – GRIMSBY INSTITUTE AND FUTURE DESTINATIONS
Look around the GIFHE on the following courses/ facilities:
Fabrication and welding with career options in welding, sheet metal, craftworks, engineering construction, rail track maintenance and blacksmith.
Electrical engineering with career options in electrical fitting, telecommunications, wind turbine technician, data communications and electronics engineer.
