Community Libraries: Key Considerations

Find attached a guide from Locality which has been tailor made for community organisations regarding community libraries.  The guide comes in light of the fact that Local Authorities across the country are looking at ways of transforming library services. This interest is driven in part by reduced budgets, but also in recognition of the need to modernise and develop library services that continue to meet the needs of communities. One option being considered by local authorities in achieving this is through community management and/or ownership of library services.

The guide forms part of a series of resources produced for the My Community programme, which is funded by the Department for Communities and Local Government. The guide explores the subject of community managed and/or owned libraries, and contains advice that is relevant to both established and new community organisations, as well as Town and Parish Councils who are interested in exploring how they may play a role in supporting and developing local community library services and buildings.
