The nights have now drawn in and there’s the regular weather forecasts telling us we’re in for a harsh winter again. Maybe it’s a bit over the top, but how prepared are you or your neighbours for extreme weather if it comes?
The Winter Planning community project is up and running again this year and our message is to make sure you’ve prepared for the possibility of not being able to get out and get to the shops. That means stocking up on food, medicines and other essentials just in case you’re stuck inside for a day or two. If that’s not a concern for you yourself, what about checking on your more vulnerable neighbours and make sure they are stocked up too.
But we also want to make sure people know to call the 01472 256 256 helpline number if they really are stuck and need some assistance. We have Winter Buddy volunteers ready across North East Lincolnshire who are willing to pick up essential shopping and supplies for anyone vulnerable when the weather turns extreme. Make sure you or others have that number to hand in preparation for the winter.
Finally, if you’re more able bodied then maybe you could also help others by becoming a Winter Buddy volunteer? Contact us to find out more.
