Staff stories: Jenny Hodson

Back in December 2013 we first reported that our very own Jenny Hodson had been selected for the England over 55s Hockey Team.  We’ll she’s been busy during the year (applying our Healthy Workplace principles out of work!).  Here’s Jenny’s latest news update on the Hockey world…

” After last year’s successful season playing for England over 55s I chose to again go through selection process of two separate days of trials down in Cannock one last month and the second day this last Sunday, starting in fog and ending in cold damp drizzle.  The selection days start at 10.30 and finish mid-afternoon so it is an early drive down and late finish but again I am pleased to say it has been worthwhile.  I have for the second year running been chosen for the squad, now it is a case of hoping I am one of the two keepers who actually travel to all the important games again this next year.  The team have the European Cup in August at the same time as the younger squads are playing at the Olympic pitches we will be nearby in London fighting our own trophy. Then there is the home countries between England, Scotland Ireland and Wales to be help this year in Wakefield, close to home.  Throughout there will then be friendlies in France Guernsey and Holland, so hopefully another year of traveling to meet new and old faces on the circuit.

The selections for 2016 will then be held early next year in March as the 2016 world cup series is in Australia the following March so squad needs to practise together and players time to save up for the cost of travel hotel and so forth, but what an experience that should be, so fingers crossed for getting into that one as well ”
