VANEL and National Trustees Week

In our October Newsletter we announced that VANEL would be holding a number of events during National Trustees’ Week in order to support and champion Trusteeship in our area.

Our programme for the week (10th-14th November) is now taking shape. So here’s this week’s update on what we have planned so far and how you can get involved.

National Trustees’ Week itself is an annual showcase of the great work that trustees do and it highlights opportunities for people from all walks of life to get involved and make a difference.

We hope that locally we’ll be able to provide some training for local trustees, share information with those thinking of becoming trustees or committee members, and help local charity boards to think afresh about how they are running.

So take a look at the (evolving) programme below & get in touch if you’d like to book onto something or would simply like to ask about Trustee and Governance support from VANEL.

MONDAY 10th November
“Join Us and Make a Difference”
12noon – 2pm at OpenDoor in Grimsby

We kick off the week with an event designed to get everyone thinking about Trusteeship and Good Governance – whether you are already a Trustee, or represent a board or want to become a Trustee.
More details soon.

TUESDAY 11th November
“Young Trustees wanted”
Times and venues yet to be confirmed
People aged 18-24 only account for 0.5% of all Trustees nationally? Why?
On the Tuesday we’ll focus on younger trustees and help younger people (and groups) explore why being a Trustee is actually a great idea.
More details very soon.

WEDNESDAY 12th November
“Technology for Trustees”
10am-12noon at the Elms
£5 each for Members/Friends or £10 otherwise
A training workshop aimed at existing Trustees and Trustee boards to help them understand how to understand, tackle and master technology when it applies both to their organisation and to the operation of their board itself.
Places will be limited so please book.
More information has already been shared online here.

THURSDAY 13th November
“Roles and Responsibilities of Trustees”
1.30pm-3.30pm at West Marsh Community Centre

£5 each for Members/Friends or £10 otherwise
A training session aimed at new trustees or those seeking to refresh their knowledge about the role of a Trustee. What must you do? What should you do? What could you do? How should you behave? How can you make yourself helpful? How can you gain from the experience? How can you improve? How can you get support? … and much more.
Places very limited so please book.
Even more details coming soon.

FRIDAY 14th November
“Tea and Trustees”
All morning at Grimsby Minster Café
Drop into the Minster during the morning to talk with other Trustees. Aimed at existing Trustees, this is a chance to informally chat with other Trustees from other organisations. You can share experiences, learn from each other, learn about techniques and ways to grow as a trustee or simply get a drink from the Café and enjoy the social experience.
More details very soon about how this Trustee Peer support session will work.

Keep an eye on the VANEL website for regularly updated information about the events during Trustees’ Week.
