Reflections on Governance – thought for the week

In our build up at VANEL to National Trustees’ Week (10th-16th November), I’m inevitably thinking lots about Trusteeship and Good Governance. So my intention is to share some thoughts on governance via the VANEL website each week now on an ongoing basis.

This week I’ve been reading a report entitled “Reflections on Governance” which was compiled by “The Foundation for Good Governance”. The report is here for you to download and read too.

There are a lot of ideas in the document, but each of them opens up whole discussions on how to make governance better for charities and other non-profits. Good Governance is important – there are benefits for everyone involved. Being a Trustee is valuable and rewarding and it’s a type of volunteering that VANEL likes to champion. So VANEL will continue to develop the ways in which we support Trustees, volunteers interested in becoming Trustees, the boards and committees themselves and anyone else who is interested in governance for non-profit organisations.

If you’re interested, take a look through this report. Perhaps you could visit one of our events during Trustees’ Week to discuss the themes further?
