Nationally, less than 0.5% of charity board Trustees are aged 18-24.\u00a0 Yet young people make up 12% of the population and are an important demographic part of our society.<\/strong><\/p>\n

They also offer skills, perspectives and an outlook that could give great value to Charities.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Charity Commission has looked closely at this shortage of younger people on charity boards.\u00a0 They’ve produced a report called “A Breath of Fresh Air” (download it here<\/a>).<\/p>\n

It’s worthwhile every local charity reading it and considering how to engage with younger people as Trustees.<\/p>\n

At VANEL<\/strong> we’re certainly keen to help address this shortage of younger people on Trustee boards locally.\u00a0 So keep an eye on this blog for our plans for National Trustees’ Week (10th – 16th November) and the events we’ll have focusing on younger trustees.\u00a0 (follow updates here http:\/\/vanel.org.uk\/va\/tag\/trusteesweek\/<\/a>)<\/p>\n

If you have gaps on your board, think about younger trustees.

\nIf you’re trying to recruit young trustees let us know so we can help promote the opportunities.
