Make it your New Year\u2019s Resolution to do something about Cyber Security during 2019 to protect your charity or non-profit from attack.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cyber Security refers to the precautions you take to protect yourself against risks and problems with technology and the internet. But to put these precautions in place you first need to understand the risks, the terminology and more. And it\u2019s not all about computers and technology. People and Processes need to be protected as well as technology if you\u2019re going to be successful putting protection in place.<\/p>\n

Reports show that the charitable sector is far more at risk than other sectors due to a lack of preparation and resources. VANEL is keen that we work hard with our Members and Friends to make sure you have tackled this problem head on and have reduced your risks to a minimum.<\/p>\n

If you think the issue doesn\u2019t affect you, then think again. If you have any form of technology in place, hold any data, deal with any money, then you have a potential for a cyber attack to cause you harm.<\/p>\n

Is you website protected against hacking?<\/p>\n

Do your staff know how to identify a phishing attack and not fall victim?<\/p>\n

Is all your GDPR compliant data suitably protected, backed up and behind secure passwords?<\/p>\n

Whether you have a complex organisation with staff, volunteers, many computers, mobile phones and more, or whether you are a micro non-profit with one laptop and a mailing list, cyber problems can be very real.<\/p>\n

The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is leading the way now on helping the charitable sector understand and prepare for cyber issues. If you\u2019re in a key role at your organisation, such as a manager, director, committee member or trustee, then this is your responsibility to investigate, learn and take action. VANEL is going to try and help you do this during 2019.<\/p>\n
